For or against

For or against?

Aug 28, 2019

What are you for?

Thought- It is much easier to tear down than to build up, but which is more rewarding?

Scripture–  “For this is what the Lord says— he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited— he says: “I am the Lord, and there is no other.” – Isaiah 45:18

Insight: It takes a long time to build something, but a short time to tear it down. Think of anything at all and this holds true. You can take years to build a house and a fire can destroy it in 10 minutes. You can take years to construct a building and it can be demolished in an explosion in minutes. It can take years to build a career, or a business, and with one bad decision it can all get blown up. It can take a lifetime to become who you were meant to be, but in an instant the enemy of your soul can destroy you. It can take all of your energy to build a good reputation, and someone on social media can do great damage in an instant, without any requirement to be factually correct. We can create or we can destroy. Which is more in line with God’s purposes?

Just stop and think for a moment how in the world we live in it is so much easier to tear down than to build up. But when you tear something or someone down, what are you left with? Have you created any value at all? We need to tell people what we are for, instead of taking the lazy way out of telling people what we are against. We need to build people up in praise instead of tearing them down through criticism. We need to create value, not destroy it. When we are for something, lives can be changed for good purposes and legacies can be built, cycles can be broken and new beginnings are possible. When we are against someone or something, we are showing our own insecurities and fears and nothing of worth is created, but much can be destroyed. We can criticize by creating new and better ways of doing something. Otherwise, we are just taking the easy road out and trying to make ourselves feel better at someone else’s expense and no lasting value ever comes from that. God is a creator, the Creator of all. We should honor Him by using the gifts He has given us to also create value, not destroy it.

Prayer: Father God, we want to make a positive impact in the World by letting people know what we are for, instead of constantly railing about what we are against. It is so easy to criticize, but it is so much more worthwhile to compliment and build bridges that bring people together rather than to focus on things that divide us. We ask for strength to accomplish your will in Jesus name, amen!
