Thought- We must ask God to help us vanquish the giants in our life.

Scripture- “All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:47

Insight: Have you ever been discouraged by your inability to defeat a certain giant in your life? I have! I don’t mean a physical giant like David had to conquer in slaying Goliath, but rather an area of sin that seems to have you under its control. It could be a myriad of things that you have a hard time with such as gambling, drug addiction, sex and pornography, alcoholism, anger, pride, lust, greed or many others. Well if you do here are some words of encouragement from Dr. Charles Stanley who says that “m any times God allows giants in our lives to be able to display His great power in our lives.” And just like David slew Goliath by relying on God, so also all of our giants are made to be vanquished if we also rely on Him.

But we have a critical role to play in the defeating of the giants in our life. First, we must admit that we are too weak to defeat them on our own and need God’s help. We need to literally surrender to Him and ask for His help. Second, like King David above in 1 Samuel 17, we must expect victory by realizing the battle is not ours but His. Finally, we need to immerse ourselves in scripture to find our confidence in how God has historically helped other weak people slay even bigger giants than we are facing. In fact, when we realize the battle we are facing is not ours, but His, we can be confident that God will defeat anything that opposes His will, and when you are aligned with him and surrender to Him, His will is for you to defeat the giants in your life! God loves showing up for his people in mighty ways when they are fully surrendered to him!

Prayer: Father God, thank you slaying the giants of our lives that are too big for us to handle on our own. We fully surrender them over to you and ask for your power to defeat them in Jesus name, just like you have down countless times throughout the history of scripture. Amen!
