Sing a little louder

Thought- “I raise a hallelujah, in the presence of my enemy. I raise a hallelujah, louder than the unbelief. I’m going to sing, in the middle of the storm. Louder and louder you’re going to hear my praises roar. Up from the ashes hope will arise, death is defeated, the King is alive.” Bethel Music- Raise a Hallelujah.

Scripture- “Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” – Psalm 146:1-2

Insight- It is easy to praise the Lord when things are going right in your life and the wind is at your back. But what about in those times when you are filled with such fear and despair that every breath you take seems hard? I have friends who are going through horrific circumstances right now, and I can tell you it is hard for them to praise the Lord. Not because they don’t want to, but because they are doing everything they can to hang on to the fraying edges of their lives. I am talking immense pain. But, when we somehow do summon the strength to somehow praise the Lord during the hardest moments of our lives, something supernatural happens and we release all control over to Him like we never have before. We literally shock the enemy when we can praise our God in the midst of the storms of life, and we call upon the same power that raised Jesus from the grave as Ephesians 1:19 and John 14:12 promise.

The lyrics above from the song “Raise a Hallelujah” are so powerful and they speak to a real life situation when a faith family interceded in prayer for a  church member’s young child who was severely ill and not sure if he was going to make it through the night. In the midst of the greatest fear and agony possible, this song came to one of the members of the Bethel Music group and they began to loudly sing their praises to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords right in the middle of the storm. The Lord did in fact “hear their praises roar,” and miraculously the little boy began to recover, and he did in fact survive. The belief and faith it took in the moments when a little boy's life hung in the balance was amazing. God still does miracles and He still answers prayers. Scream out praises to Him when your entire being seems to want to do anything but that and see how God can work in the midst of your storms.

Prayer: Father God, thank you that you hear our praises, both in the good times and the bad! Thank you that you still provide miracles for those who believe in you. Thank you that your word promises that the same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in us. Help us to shout it out in praise of King Jesus. Amen!
