One of the great misconceptions about Christianity is that as a Christian, life will be easy. The truth is that even though we have found new life in Christ, the path we walk is still narrow and filled with trials. The good news is not that life will be pain free, but that God has not left us to go through it alone. He has given us promises in His word that remind us that He is faithful to us, no matter the circumstances we may be facing.
God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
And Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid or dismayed; be strong and courageous. For thus the LORD will do to all your enemies against whom you fight.”
So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.
I Corinthians 2:9
no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him
I John 3:2
Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
When you are feeling discouraged (and you will), remember that God’s word is true! His promises are strong and sure, and He will be faithful. Injustice, fear, pain and sorrow are all very real, and we will have moments of trials. But our hope is in God, who gives us justice, mercy and compassion, and in Him we have strength to face whatever comes our way.
