Focus Celebrates More Than 230,000 Babies Saved from Abortion

Every January Focus on the Family commemorates the sanctity of human life in all of its beautiful forms.

It was, of course, in January 1973 that the U.S. Supreme Court rendered its tragic decision on Roe v Wade, which legalized abortion in all fifty states.  Since then about 51 million babies have been lost to abortion.

In the midst of this somber reality is a ray of hope - more than ever before we’re seeing Americans identify as “pro-life.” As technology helps to reveal the reality and beauty of life in the womb, a greater number of women facing unplanned pregnancies are choosing to parent their babies, or to place them for adoption.

Focus on the Family’s Option Ultrasound Program is playing an important role in helping abortion-minded women choose life for their children. We’re doing this by helping to equip pregnancy medical clinics to provide ultrasound services to women at-risk for abortion.

This year we’re celebrating two important milestones:  the 10-year anniversary of the Option Ultrasound Program and an estimated 230,000 babies saved thanks to the program.

Think about that number for a second. An astonishing 230,000 babies, each one precious in God’s sight, have been given a chance at life.

As grateful as we are for what the Lord has done through OUP, our efforts extend beyond the preborn. Here at Focus, we’re determined to highlight human life at every stage and condition. We want to speak for those with special needs and at the end of life. The poor, the orphan and those who are trafficked – they, too, are bearers of the image of God.

That’s why this year during Sanctity of Human Life Month we’re launching the “Be a Voice for Life” pledge to honor each and every person as worthy of dignity and respect. Those who take this pledge will have access to resources like downloadable “Best of Pro-Life” Focus broadcasts and an article about the myths and fears surrounding Down syndrome. Focus also offers a church kit with sermon ideas, bulletin inserts, videos and age-specific lessons and activities to teach kids about the value of life.

You might also be interested in a life-affirming three-part broadcast that starts today: “Overcoming the Obstacles of Cerebral Palsy.” It’s an inspiring story told by Lisa and Tyler Sexton, a mother and son, about overcoming the obstacles that come with a special needs diagnosis. They share how they learned to trust God through the tough times and deal with Tyler’s “why me?” questions. Tyler, who lives with cerebral palsy, is now pursuing his medical degree as a resident physician at the University of South Alabama. You can listen to the broadcast through your local radio station, online, or via our free app.

You can also get involved with Focus’ pro-life efforts through our “I Am Pro-Life” Facebook page, the largest page of its kind.
