More Than Grillin' and Chillin' on Labor Day

Grillin' and chillin' … that's what many of us do on Labor Day.

But if you're in the mood to try something different, why not go for a walk, a ride or make a life-changing difference before you settle back in the lawn chair later that day?

OSU (Operation Straight Up) Tour will make it easy for you.  On this coming Monday, September 7, 2009—yes, that's Labor Day!—if you live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas metroplex, you are invited to be a part of OSU's Walk-a-Thon/Bike-a-Thon at NASCAR's Texas Motor Speedway.

From 8:00 to 11:30 a.m., registered attendees wearing their athletic shoes or sporting some bicycles or tricycles will be able to walk or ride the race track and help raise support for the children of fallen soldiers.  All proceeds will go toward caring for the widows and mentoring children of the fathers who have been killed at war, as well as the upcoming OSU Tour events in Iraq.  Even if you can't attend and live several states (or continents!) away, you can still participate by sponsoring a walker or rider or by donating to this special cause.

At the end of the Walk-a-Thon-/Bike-a-Thon, the children of fallen soldiers will have the opportunity to take a ride in a real NASCAR around the track at amazing speeds.  Vroom, vroom, vroom!  The Interstate Batteries #18 car (it won the Daytona 500/800 horsepower), as well as a recently retired National Guard car #16 (also 800 horsepower) will be on hand.

The morning's events will be hosted by actor Stephen Baldwin, and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Dr. Andy Baldwin (no relation; best known for starring in the tenth season of ABC's The Bachelor) will also make a special appearance.

This is a great way to spend your Labor Day and an opportunity to say "thank you" and support the families of our fallen heroes.  For more information about how to register or how to play a part through giving, please visit osutour.org.
