Destiny Sales Fall Short of the Hype

If you watch a lot of television, you've likely seen the slick commercials promoting the release of the newest shoot-em-up video game that kids are clamoring to play: Destiny. The new science-fiction game by Bungie was released last week, but has not lived up to anticipated sales projections in its first week of sales.

Prior to its release, the game was hyped as the successor to Bungie's popular Halo game series. Although Destiny was the most preordered game in the gaming industry, and perhaps the most anticipated new game release, it garnered only $325 million in sales during the first five days after its release. This puts sales below all time best selling game releases like Grand Theft Auto V, and Call of Duty.

Industry observers point to mediocre reviews of the game as a factor in Destiny's less than anticipated sales figures, but project that its sales will continue to gain momentum.
