Day 5- For Rest

The world seems to be spinning out of control with each terrifying headline. Terrorism. Shootings. Beheadings. Persecution. Ebola.

It's enough to make you bar the doors and never leave home!

Recently, I've been glued to the local news because there is a young college student missing in our community. I have a daughter her age. I cannot imagine the anguish her family is experiencing. Even now, as I write these words, I hear the roar of helicopters nearby as they search for Hannah.

A shadow has been cast on our community. On this whole world. We are in desperate need of relief. Of rest.

Father, I bow before You today, thanking You for the way opened for me by the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19-20). I come asking for a fresh touch from you, a fresh vision of You, for rest. Because I know that if I see You as You are, I can rest in quietness and confidence.

This world seems to be falling apart. Evil abounds in every corner and on every level and so often it appears to be winning the fight. Sometimes it's hard to breathe.  Father, help me. Give me eyes to see that You are altogether glorious and mighty, making wars to cease, breaking bows, cutting spears in two and burning chariots with fire. (Psalm 46:9)

It is You who changes times and seasons. (Daniel 2:21) O Lord, Your hand is not so short that it cannot save, neither is Your ear so dull that it cannot hear. (Isaiah 59:1) Help me to trust You. Help me rest in You and wait patiently for You. Enable me to not fret because of those who prosper in their ways, those who carry out wicked schemes. (Psalm 37:7)

Be my Shepherd, O God. Lead me beside quiet waters. Restore my soul. Guide me in paths of righteousness for Your name's sake. And even when I walk through valleys of the shadow of death, may I fear no evil, for You are with me. Let Your goodness and mercy follow me all the days of my life. (Psalm 23:2-4)

Lord, the problems in this world and in my own life loom large and they frighten me. I feel scared and small. But You, O Lord, are boundless, riding across the highest heavens, the ancient heavens.(Psalm 68:33) Show me how to lean into You.  Show me how to draw from Your well of Living Water.

Let my soul find rest in You, for my hope comes from You alone.(Psalm 62:5) Jesus, quiet my heart and my soul as You spoke to the wind and the waves. (Mark 4:39) Speak Your word over me, I pray. Let me be still and know that You are God. (Psalm 46:10) In Jesus' name, Amen.
