Abortion Rate Falls to Lowest in Decades

The abortion rate has decreased to its lowest level in decades according to a new report.

The Associated Press reports that research on the national abortion rate was conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and included data from 47 states. The report did not include information from California, Maryland, and New Hampshire.

In 1971, two years prior to the ruling in Roe v. Wade legalizing abortion, the CDC reported a low abortion rate, but that rate went up dramatically by 1980 when there were 25 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44.

In 2013, however, the abortion rate dropped to half of what it was in 1980. Only 12.5 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44 were recorded in 2013. This percentage of abortions totalled 664,435 total abortions in 2013. This is excluding California, Maryland, and New Hampshire, however.

The total estimate of abortions in all 50 states in 2013 was 900,000.

Pro-life advocates and groups are also hopeful that the abortion rate will continue to decrease under Donald Trump’s presidency.

Trump has pledged to increase abortion restrictions, to defund Planned Parenthood, and to appoint conservative Supreme Court Justices who will possibly overturn Roe v. Wade

“Today, pro-life America has a job to do. Regardless of whether you voted for Trump or not, we must hold President-elect Donald Trump’s feet to the fire when it comes to the various pro-life pledges he made,” stated LifeNews reporter Steven Ertelt.
