Mike Weaver, the frontman of Christian band Big Daddy Weave and the brother of the late Jay Weaver, said he continues to be "blown away" by the stories about how God used his brother.

Mike Weaver was speaking at a Big Daddy Weave concert at Rock the Universe in Florida, the first show the band has had since Jay Weaver died.

"We saw how Jesus used him in the lives of people," Mike said of his brother. "It was through him just getting through every day, and in the midst of a great amount of pain, God was just shining so bright."

In early January, Jay, who played bass for Big Daddy Weave, died after contracting COVID-19. He was 42. He had previously battled chronic health conditions, including diabetes and a weakened immune system, which led to the amputation of both feet due to infection in 2016.

Jay had played bass guitar for the band for some 23 years. In August, he was hospitalized for complications with his dialysis treatment. In December, he was diagnosed and again hospitalized with COVID-19. He died on January 2.

"Every day, he trusted in the healing of Jesus," Mike said.

Fans had rallied around Jay over the years after he announced his medical problems. The band, meanwhile, saw several number one songs on the contemporary Christian radio charts, including "Every Time I Breathe," "My Story," "I Know" and "Redeemed."

"You guys have helped carry him through so much. And I'm telling you, the Lord used him in such a mighty way. Out on the road for so many years. And anybody's who's come in contact with him knows how real his faith in Jesus was. I believe even though COVID may have taken his last breath, Jesus was right there to catch him. I know he's seeing things now I long to see. My heart's broke," Mike Weaver said in a post confirming his brother's death.
