Seven people were killed Saturday in northern Nigeria after a suicide bomber blew herself up. Christian Today reports the woman reportedly detonated the bombs at a market in Yobe State injuring nearly 30 people.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, residents believe it to be work of Boko Haram.
Boko Haram has displaced about 1.5 million as the group tries to take over territories. In response, the Nigerian army has recaptured much of the captured territories.
Boko Haram militants are now trying guerrilla warfare tactics. Last week, they attacked just outside the Borno state capital and a village in Adamawa state.
Residents in Nigeria are also reporting that it’s not just Boko Haram killing people, particularly Christians. The Fulani Muslim herdsmen have also taken responsibility for burning churches and buildings and killing Christians.
The Fulani Muslim herdsmen killed some 70 Christians in Nigeria in the past month, according to Morning Star News.
In early May, the group killed 27 Christians in Foron. One of the murdered was Rev. Luka Gwom, of the Church of Christ in Nations.
“Clearly, the continuing killings in Plateau State of Nigeria are not getting enough coverage, both at home and abroad," said Emeka Izeze, managing director of Guardian Newspapers of Nigeria. "The media seem to be fatigued with chronicling the killings in the area.
"The government is not doing enough," Izeze added. "It is either in denial or treating the deteriorating security situation with kid's gloves."
It’s unclear if the Fulani Muslim herders are in part associated with Boko Haram.
"So far, no one has been able to draw a link between the two," Izeze told CP. "Yet their activities remain similar in causing maximum mayhem especially with attacks against Christians and churches."
