Boko Haram Leader Says Abducted Nigerian Girls Will Be Sold

As ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported at least 200 Nigerian schoolgirls at the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok were kidnapped by the Islamist group Boko Haram April 14.

According to Agence France-Presse Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video his plans to sell the girls.

"I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah," Shekau said in a video obtained by Agence France-Presse. "There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell. He commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women."

The Nigerian government has been criticized for not doing enough to find the abducted girls.

International Christian Concern reports Women for Peace and Justice called for a march at the nations capitol in Abuja demanding the government to increase its effort to find the girls. Labeled the “Million-Woman March,” the BBC reports hundreds of women dressed in red marched through the streets in protest and delivered a letter of complaint to the National Assembly.

During a recent trip to sub-Saharan Africa U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States would do all it could to help in the search to find the girls.

“Let me be clear,” said Kerry. “The kidnapping of hundreds of children by Boko Haram is an unconscionable crime, and we will do everything possible to support the Nigerian government to return these young women to their homes and to hold the perpetrators to justice. I will tell you, my friends, I have seen this scourge of terror across the planet, and so have you.”

Nigeria is ranked No. 14 on the Open Doors World Watch List of the worst persecutors of Christians. Open Doors USA President/CEO Dr. David Curry expressed concern with the lack of earnest search efforts.

“A horrific, systematic targeting of not only Christians, but Muslims by the Boko Haram is taking place while the world sleeps or ignores the carnage,” said Curry. “We in the West need to wake up and stand up for these victims now. We can’t allow Nigeria to become another Syria.”
