The Nigerian government has ordered its troops to halt fighting against Boko Haram militants. According to Nigerian authorities, the Muslim extremist organization has agreed to a ceasefire.

Nigerian Chief of Defense Staff Alex Badeh ordered his troops "to comply with the cease-fire agreement between Nigeria and Boko Haram in all theaters of operations."

VOA News reports that leaders from the Nigerian government and Boko Haram are now engaging in talks in Saudi Arabia; Chadian President Idriss Deby and leaders from Cameroon are moderating the talks.

Nigerian presidential aid Hassan Tukur said that the talks are focusing on the release of nearly 200 girls who were kidnapped from a school in Borno state on April 14.

"They've assured us they have the girls and they will release them," Tukur said.

"I am cautiously optimistic."
