Boko Haram militants have reportedly taken over another Nigerian town, leaving dozens dead in their wake. Thousands have fled the region, witnesses report.

The terrorist group attacked the northeast town of Mubi Wednesday (Oct. 24); militants stormed the town, opening fire at residents. Officials said that the town was taken over by the terrorists, as Boko Haram members flew their flag at a palace of a ruler.

According to witnesses, houses were burned and shots have continued to be heard since the terrorists captured Mubi.

A security official said that the Nigerian military has been called for reinforcement.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has been engaging in talks to release about 200 girls that were kidnapped from a school in Chibok on April 14. Christian Today reports that foreign minister Aminu Wali said the recent surge in violence would not affect the negotiations.
