Mark Hall, the lead singer of the popular Christian band Casting Crowns, recently spoke about his struggle with cancer and how his faith sustained him through it.

"It was definitely out of nowhere," Hall told "The Church Boys" podcast, according to CharismaNews.com. "I went to the doctor to be checked for acid reflux. He was just doing a scan to see if I had ulcers or anything else going on down there, and then, on accident, saw a tumor in my kidney."

Although the tumor had not spread to the kidney surrounding it, the cancer was a nuclear level 3 cell type, a kind of cancer that can grow very aggressively.

"For a day there it really rocked me," said Hall. "I was going through feelings and doubts and fear and worry ... my feelings were all over the map."

Hall, who is also a youth pastor in addition to a singer, said that it was a test of his faith to be the one in the storm when he was used to helping everybody else through difficult times.

But, he said, he always fell back on his faith in Christ.

"My feelings kept slamming up against something solid in me, and that was the roots of my faith," he said.

Despite all his doubts, Hall said he kept being reminded of one thing: "God is who He said He is."

Hall was even inspired to write a song about his struggle called “Oh My Soul.”

Eventually, doctors were able to remove Hall’s kidney and miraculously, the cancer did not spread. Hall and his family praise God for this miracle.
