A number of Christian celebrities are sharing their struggles with depression in order to let others know that there is hope.

Women of Faith speaker and former 700 Club host Sheila Walsh was admitted to a psyche ward for a month after being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and severe clinical depression, Christian Today reports, but that did not cause her to give up or lose her faith.

"Sometimes God will take you to a prison to set you free," Walsh testified, adding that she found strength in the Holy Spirit.

Another Christian celebrity, former Maxim and Victoria’s Secret model, Nicol Weider also shared about her struggle with depression.

"I always needed God, and (my depression) ultimately created in me the desire to get to know God. I had to see doctors, have medicine, it was the real thing. There's nothing sinful about getting something. Know you're going to come out of it, stronger, more fierce than ever before," Weider stated.

Weider is now actively sharing her story so that other young women who have a similar struggle can find hope and encouragement and the help they need.

Although from a different generation, celebrity preacher Charles Spurgeon also gives his insightful thoughts on depression, a condition he struggled with throughout his life.

"Despondency is not a virtue; I believe it is a vice. I am heartily ashamed of myself for falling into it, but I am sure there is no remedy for it like a holy faith in God."
