A Christian couple has been denied their request to adopt their foster children due to their views on adoption by gay couples.

ChristianToday.com reports that the Christian couple has been caring for the foster children since earlier this year. They were hoping to adopt the children, but were told that their view that children are better off with a mother and a father were “concerning” and “could be detrimental to the long-term needs of the children.”

The couple is appealing the decision and claims that "We are Christians and we expressed the view that a child needs a mother and a father. We expressed our views in modest, temperate terms based on our Christian convictions.”

"We love everyone, regardless of sexual orientation,” they continued, “and we love the children and believe that they would benefit from the foundation offered by a mother and a father."

"The decision... appears discriminatory to us and not related to the children's needs. The children love us: we love them. All the reports show that we are a loving, caring and stable family. What more could a child need?"

The father was asked how he would feel were one of the foster children to come out as gay.

“It is hard to accept,” he replied, “but we would accept it.”

Andrea Williams of the Christian Legal Center is representing the couple and stated, “This couple’s viewpoint is lawful and mainstream.”
