A college football player chose to go against the crowd and stand alone for the National Anthem while the rest of his team remained in the locker room.

According to Fox News’s Todd Starnes, Connor Brewer attends Milliken University in central Illinois and is a member of the university’s football team.

As a response to the movement started by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Milliken’s football team decided to remain inside the locker room for the National Anthem.

“Rather than have our message be misunderstood or misconstrued, we are united in our decision to stay in the locker room until kickoff during which time we will engage in a moment of reflection to personally recognize the sacrifice of so many and renew our commitment to living up to those most important words: ‘with liberty and justice for all,’” the team wrote in a statement published in the Herald-Review.

Connor Brewer, however, chose to stand alone on the field.

A picture of him standing alone on the field in his football uniform has garnered the attention of many.

Despite the attention he drew for his act of courage, Brewer declined to be interviewed out of respect for his coaches and team.
