Comedian Sarah Silverman has angered some conservative Christians after she posted a tweet about Jesus to social media on Christmas.

According to the Christian Post, the Jewish comedian, who says she is not anti-Christian, posted “MERRY CHRISTMAS! Jesus was gender fluid!”

The New York Daily Mail clarifies that gender fluid refers to  “a person’s gender identity being in flux over time, which could include identifying oneself as male, female or neutral at different points.”

Critics called Silverman’s tweet “unthinkable” and “a sad attempt at humour.” One former fan posted on Silverman’s Facebook page, stating that the comedian just lost one of her fans.

Other commenters accused Silverman of not knowing enough about Jesus to make such a claim about him since she is Jewish.

Silverman has said that she is not anti-Christian and believes Jesus was a good man, but does not understand why some people use their faith in him to justify things of which he would not approve.

Silverman has used her platform to speak about Jesus before, including a video parody of a Christmas song  and a video in which she talks with an actor playing Jesus and discusses abortion rights.
