Pastors in Detroit are planning to protest the unveiling of a satanic statue featuring the idol Baphomet. The statue is being sponsored by the Satanic Temple.

Christian Today reports the satanist church intends to unveil the statue on July 25 at Bert’s Warehouse, a location close to a Ten Commandments monument. The group first pushed to erect the statue next to the Ten Commandments monument on Oklahoma's capitol grounds, but the request was denied by Oklahoma's Supreme Court.

Local pastor David Bullock said that the statue is "The last thing we need.”

Detroit is already battling violence, economic problems, unemployment and a water crisis, he said.

Doug Mesner, spokesman of the Satanic Temple said, "The statue will serve as a beacon calling for compassion and empathy among all living creatures. The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation.”

Pastors in the area say that they hope all Christians will turn out to protest the statue’s unveiling.
