Dinesh D'Souza Admits Mistakes in Judgment, Looks to Future Filmmaking

Dinesh D’Souza, the filmmaker and author recently convicted of campaign finance fraud, has admitted that he has made political mistakes; he now looks to future filmmaking endeavors and redeeming his name.

In an interview with The Christian Post, D’Souza explained that his life and decisions began to shift after the success of his 2012 film “2016: Obama’s America.”

“It was the flurry of ‘2016,’ the movie was in full swing. I was at the same time running a college, and I was at the same time marketing a book, and speaking. Everything was a whirlwind and I think part of that got to me and so I made decisions then that I would not have made in cooler moments.”

D’Souza said the fraudulent act of using $20,000 from straw donors to fund Wendy Long’s senate campaign was a decision that he made “with five minutes of thinking.”

“I feel its been at times a little crazy and at times a little surreal, perhaps no more so than recently because of the whole trial, [and] the criminal prosecution. It’s something I never really expected or thought that I would be facting. But I’ve tried to face it with honesty and dignity,” D’Souza said.

The conservative filmmaker is now looking to the future and planning a movie about atheists that he has debated. Personally, he will be spending time with his daughter over the summer.

“It’s taken me almost a year-and-a-half to come to a point of restoration and I feel like I’m there now and I can build from here. So, I’m in a good point in life,” D’Souza said.

D’Souza awaits sentencing for his crime in September.
