A study undertaken by the federal government and the Planned Parenthood-associated Guttmacher Institute has shown that the abortion rate has dropped significantly in recent years.

OneNewsNow.com reports that the study revealed that the abortion rate dropped 25 percent between 2008 and 2014.

Pro-life advocates, of course, rejoice at this good news, but they also point out that abortion supporters fail to recognize the impact of the pro-life movement and instead attribute the lower abortion rate to improved contraception use.

Instead, pro-lifers point out that there is renewed commitment to preserving the life of the unborn, which has resulted in such measures as parental involvement and informed consent legislation, as well as health safety regulations for abortion clinics.

"We've dropped across the board in every single demographic group," said Dr. Randall K. O’Bannon of the National Right to Life Committee regarding the decreasing abortion rate, "whether it's by age, whether it's by race or whether it's by education, whether it's by economic level. And that's good news so we're encouraged by that part."

O’Bannon added, however, that abortions among minorities, and particularly African-Americans, still remain at high levels.

"Abortion rates have always been significantly higher for the African-American population than they have been for the white population, maybe three times higher," said O'Bannon. "And even though they've both come down, the African-American abortion rate has got a lot further to go down."
