Masters Winner Danny Willett and His Father are Christians but Didn't Pray to Win Tournament

Danny Willett became the first Englishman since 1996 to win The Masters golf championship.
Willett is the son of Steve Willett, a Church of England vicar. Both Danny and Steve identify as Christians, but Steve has joked that he is “not allowed” to pray for his son to win the tournament because “that would not be fair.”
Danny Willett echoed his father’s words, stating, "I am a Christian - I was brought up in a Christian family - but a lot of the Americans take it slightly over the top at times.I think He [God] has bigger things to deal with than whether I shoot 65 or not at the US PGA."
Willett came out ahead of 2015 Masters winner Jordan Spieth, who also identifies as a Christian.
Christian Today reports that Willett’s family expressed their excitement about his recent victory over Twitter.
Willett’s wife, who recently gave birth to the couple’s first child, tweeted, “New baby, New green Jacket all in less than 2 weeks..so proud of @Danny_Willett for making history! Hurry home now so we can celebrate!”
Willett’s brother Peter and sister-in-law Sarah expressed their excitement at Willett’s victory by posting a photo of a bottle of champagne.
Steve Willett said his son has been playing golf since a young age.
"By the time he was 12 he was out-driving me," Steve Willett said. “I stopped playing with him after a while because it was embarrassing."
