‘Fixer-Upper’ Stars Consider Moving from Home State of Texas

Chip and Joanna Gaines, the stars of the popular HG-TV series “Fixer Upper” recently said that they would consider leaving Texas and moving to a different state.

This news is significant since the show takes place in the couple’s hometown of Waco, Texas, and the Gaineses have built a small real estate empire in the town.

Although Chip said that having four young children would make a big move difficult, they are open to it in the future.

“We’ve got four young babies and so the farther we get from home, it makes it almost impossible for us to figure out how to keep everything in balance or in line,” Chip told PEOPLE, adding that he has some interest in moving to Las Vegas.

“I think the kids would really appreciate it,” he said.

Joanna, on the other hand, mentioned New York City, where she used to live for a time before getting married.

“Waco is our meet in the middle spot: half big city, half tropical —maybe not. We talk about it. We’ve been to Kansas City a lot recently and have just fallen in love with that community,” Chip continued. “Salt Lake, every time we go there it just kind of really inspires us, obviously New York City for Jo. There are a few cities across the country that we would possibly consider if Waco did not work out.”

Residents of Waco likely hope the Gainses will stay put, as the popularity of “Fixer Upper” has put Waco on the map like never before. Chip and Joanna opened a bed and breakfast in the town, in addition to the many homes they renovated, as well as Magnolia Market at the Silos, a place showcasing all aspects of the Gainses’ work. These places have become extremely popular tourist attractions, bringing thousands of people to Waco every year.
