The Rev. Franklin Graham recently drew criticism for calling transgender individuals “weirdos,” as well as for backing President Trump’s tough stance on immigration.

In an interview with a South Carolina station, WBTV, Graham spoke out strongly against policies supporting transgender rights, calling transgender individuals, “weirdos that want to force themselves into girls' locker rooms and to women's bathrooms.”

Graham further explained his comments to those who thought he was being too harsh and insensitive by stating, “Jesus wasn't real loving sometimes. He called the Pharisees vipers, snakes, whitewashed tombs. So, you have to understand the world in which we live is dangerous.”

Graham added that he did not think Trump should tone down his rhetoric on national issues.

“No, I'm not going to tell him to tone it down,” Graham said. “I mean, my goodness, he got to where he is by being who he is.”

Although some of Graham’s comments in the interview may come off as harsh, he also spoke on the less controversial subject of the health of his father, the Rev. Billy Graham.

“Communication is very difficult with him,” Graham stated. “He kind of shuts down. Maybe one or two word kind of sentences. Of course, you'd like to see him like he was 20 years ago. But this is part of life.”
