Christian charity, Baptist Global Response (BGR) is inviting people to join their initiative to use holiday gift-giving to help those in need.

According to the Christian Examiner, BGR is encouraging people to give donations to those in need as gifts to friends and family members in honor of Giving Tuesday on December 1.

Amidst the holiday materialism and days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, BGR says Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to focus on making a difference in the lives of others.

BGR has a catalog of gifts which people can purchase. One such gift is to give $10 so that a young girl may have a safe place for a day.

Many young women around the world are human trafficking victims, and providing a safehaven for them is a huge need.

The BGR catalog provides the example of a young girl named Bornali.

"Bornali became a domestic slave at the age of 5," the catalog says. "Her masters forced her to work from sunrise until late at night. When she didn't please her owners, they often tied her to a window or in a bag and beat her. After about six years, she escaped. Your donations supported a home where she could go. Give so other girls can find safety."

Other gifts include a sewing kit for $70 which will enable a woman to support her family with seamstress work, medical care, food for a child for a week, and many other much-needed gifts. Donators can also choose to give “where most needed.”

The Giving Tuesday website says that this event “kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.”
