High School Baptisms on Football Field were Voluntary, Pastor Says

A pastor who baptized Georgia high school students on the school’s football field says the baptism was voluntary.

Reverend Kevin Williams, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Villa Rica, said the 18 students and one coach whom he baptized wanted to be baptized on their own volition and that there was no coercion or any illegal activity involved, according to SRN News.

The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) notified the school after they saw the video of the baptisms which Williams posted on the internet.

The FFRF sent a letter to the Carroll County school, alleging that baptizing on school grounds amounted to “proselytizing.”

Pastor Williams denies this, asserting that the baptisms had nothing to do with the school, except for taking place on the football field.

Williams asserted that he would baptize more students if they asked him to baptize them. “If they want to get right with God, I’m all in,” Williams stated.

The school has issued a statement saying they are investigating the matter.
