Hurricane Harvey is strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico and is set to make landfall on the coast of Texas early Saturday morning.

CNN.com reports that the hurricane was recently upgraded to a Category 3 storm.

According to the National Hurricane Center, a Category 3 storm can produce winds up to 129 mph. With a Category 3 storm, the Center warns that “devastating damage will occur.” Necessities like electricity and water will likely be unavailable, possibly for days.

If Harvey makes landfall as anticipated, it will be the first major hurricane to do so in the U.S. since Category 5 Hurricane Katrina devastated the southeast U.S. in 2005.

The Texas coast is already experiencing intense winds and high waves as the hurricane nears land.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has warned people from Corpus Christi to Houston to be prepared for significant flooding. He also said that rescue teams are already prepared to help those who will need assistance.

Abbott also said that he has been in contact with President Trump and the federal government and they are providing necessary assistance as well.

President Trump was briefed about the Hurricane while boarding Marine One for Camp David. The President wished all those in Hurricane Harvey’s path “Good luck.”
