The Islamic State has freed 37 captives who had been missing for nine months before their release.

The Christian Post reports that the freed captives are elderly Assyrian Christians who had been kidnapped by the Islamic State in Tal Talmer, a northeastern city in Syria.

The Assyrian Human Rights Network announced the release of the captives on their Facebook page, and CNN reports that all of them are in good health.

According to U.N Humanitarian Affairs Chief Stephen O’Brien, the ongoing war in Syria has taken the greatest toll on Christians and other minorities. Over 250,000 people have been killed and approximately 7.6 million have been driven from their homes.

Many more have left their country entirely, seeking asylum in other countries.

The recently released captives were part of a group of 215 civilians who were captured by the Islamic State back in February. Families of those still being held hostage are hopeful that they will also be released.
