The ISIS militant commonly known as “Jihadi John” was identified last week as Mohammed Emwazi, a Kuwait-born Londoner who moved to Syria in 2013. Kuwait police now say that Emwazi’s parents suspected their son was the ISIS poster boy before he was identified by authorities.

Christian Today reports Ghania and Jassem Emwazi of Kuwait were brought in for questioning along with their other son. Police claim that Emwazi’s parents recognized his voice in James Foley’s beheading video.

An unnamed source told The Telegraph, "The mother recognised the voice and she screamed 'that is my son' while he was talking before beheading the first American hostage. When they played the video again, the father was sure it was his son.”

The family has issued a statement saying that the claims they recognized their son in the videos are false.

Emwazi’s parents have not had any contact with their son since 2013 when they reported him missing.

Jassem Emwazi reportedly said, "I am waiting day-by-day to hear about his death.”
