The parents of popstar Katy Perry have asked people not to judge their daughter but instead to pray for her.

According to ChristianToday.com, both of Perry’s parents, Keith and Mary Hudson, are ministers. Perry was raised in the Church, but has since left her Christian faith.

The Hudson’s have criticized some of Perry’s song lyrics, especially when she released “I Kissed a Girl.”

Now, however, her parents say they have learned to accept their daughter for who she is, although they pray she will return to her faith.

"I want you to pray for my daughter," Keith Hudson said. "Don't judge her, pray for her. She's going to be singing 'Rise' for the Olympics this year. We're very proud of it and her."

Some people have criticized the Hudsons for continuing to attend Perry’s awards shows because some of Perry's song lyrics are sexually explicit, but the Hudsons believe that it is still their job to support their daughter.

In 2013, Perry told Marie Claire that while she has left the Christian faith in which she was raised, she still believes in God:

"I'm not Buddhist, I'm not Hindu, I'm not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God,” she said. “I pray all the time — for self-control, for humility. There's a lot of gratitude in it. Just saying 'thank you' sometimes is better than asking for things.”
