Kentucky Judge Signs Order to Keep State’s Last Abortion Clinic Open

The pro-life movement has been gaining ground in recent months. In Kentucky, all abortion clinics except one have been shut down. Now, however, a Kentucky judge has signed an order mandating that the clinic be allowed to stay open and continue to operate.
SRNNews.com reports that a lawsuit is pending to keep the Louisville clinic open, but until the lawsuit is resolved, U.S. District Judge Greg Stivers has issued a preliminary order that EMW Women’s Surgical Center stay open. Stivers also previously issued a restraining order to prevent the state from taking away the clinic’s license.
The clinic has been accused by the state of not complying with safety operating procedures related to its maintaining hospital admittance privileges and ambulance service in case of an emergency.
Kentucky’s conservative Christian governor Matt Bevin and his administration agreed to renew EMW’s license until the lawsuit is resolved, but the American Civil Liberties Union said that the case shouldn’t have even gone to court.
ACLU attorney Brigitte Amiri said doctors at the clinic shouldn’t have been taken to court for providing care to patients. Amiri did, however, praise Stivers decision to allow the clinic to continue to operate while the lawsuit is resolved.
