A church in Liverpool, UK has been accused of promoting “gay cure” therapy sessions in which they tell those who are gay that homosexuality is a “deceit from Satan.”

According to ChristianToday.com, The Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry congregation was originally founded in Nigeria and has thousands of branches around the world, including 90 in the UK.

An undercover reporter from the Liverpool Echo went to the Liverpool church to investigate. He posed as a gay man who was seeking help from the church.

The church’s assistant pastor, known as “Brother Michael,” told the reporter that the first step was to “humble his soul” through a process of fasting from food and drink for 24 hours. This would supposedly “allow him to marry and have children.”

The pastor went on to describe homosexuality as a “deceit from Satan” which people were not born into, but willfully choose.

In a counseling session the reporter attended with Brother Michael, the pastor told him, “I will say one thing as well, you say all these things about ‘I'm feeling I'm confused about my sexuality.’ Thank God you say that you are looking for deliverance because you have got your deliverance.”

The undercover investigation into this church’s practices comes just weeks after the Church of England released an official statement, saying that gay conversion therapy is “unethical, harmful and has no place in the modern world.”
