A Mississippi man who went on a shooting spree Saturday evening and killed eight people has made a surprising confession.

Charisma News reports that 35-year-old Willie Corey Godbolt began the shooting rampage after a domestic dispute.

One of those shot and killed by Godbolt, William Durr, was a police deputy who was also a former youth pastor.

"I will remember William Durr as an officer, husband, father, ventriloquist and friend," Nathan Case, a minister in Brookhaven, Mississippi, said about the deputy. "But I will never forget him as a brother in Christ."

This story is receiving attention not only due to Durr’s Christian character, but due to the surprising words of the suspect as he is sitting, apprehended and handcuffed, by police.

“My intentions was to have ya’ll to kill me,” he explained to a reporter, referring to the police. “I ran out of bullets. Suicide by cop was my intention.”

“I ain’t fit to live. Not after what I done. Not in ya’ll eyes and not in nobody else’s eyes,” Godbolt added. “But God, he forgives you for everything.”

According to The Blaze, Godbolt has been charged with one count of aggravated murder and seven counts of first-degree murder.
