Martin Luther King Jr.’s Bible to be Sold

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Bible will be sold after a dispute among King's children has finally been settled.
ChristianToday.com reports that after King was assassinated in 1968, the Bible, as well as his Nobel Peace Prize, were given to his children.
His oldest daughter, Yolanda, passed away in 2007, leaving King’s three other children, Martin Luther King III, Dexter Scott, and Bernice, in possession of his estate.
A family dispute began among these three. Bernice was against selling any of her father’s prized possessions--she called it “unthinkable”-- but Martin III and Dexter Scott were in favor of selling their father’s Bible. King’s two sons said that King’s estate needed funds, so selling the Bible was a wise decision.
A judge has now ended the family dispute by ruling that MLK III should have custody of King’s possessions.
Former President Jimmy Carter has been helping settle the dispute as well.
Carter commented on the court ruling: "While Bernice has always believed that the Peace Prize and Bible should not be sold, I am grateful that she has agreed not to stand in the way of the Estate's decisions about how to handle the items...As in any mediation, compromises were required, and I am glad that the parties resolved the issues in the interest of the greater good and their parents' legacy,” he said.
