Typhoon Yolanda (also called Haiyan) ripped through the Philippines Friday November 8th, with 4 deaths confirmed already according to NBC and many more predicted. Experts say that Yolanda is the strongest typhoon of the year so far, and maybe even the most powerful storm to hit land in this part of the world. Christiannews.net reports that, in the days leading up to the storm’s impact, Filipinos (the majority of whom are Catholic) cried out to God to protect their poor country, already ravaged by 7.1 magnitude earthquake in October. The storm reached wind levels of 195mph with gusts as strong as 235mph, according to CNN. Christian organization Samaritan’s Purse has been among the first responders bringing aid to those affected by the storm. Yolanda is forecasted to hit Vietnam and Laos over the next few days.
