Meghan Markle is Baptized into Church of England before Marriage to Prince Harry

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have their wedding date set for May 19, 2018. Leading up to this big day, Markle was baptized into the Church of England by Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

Reuters.com reports that the baptism took place on Tuesday at Chapel Royal at St. James’ Palace in London. The 45-minute ceremony was followed by Markle’s confirmation. The ceremony was private and was attended by Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, although Queen Elizabeth II was not present.

Although Markle was not required to convert before marrying Prince Harry, she had previously announced her decision to do so. She reportedly attended a Catholic school growing up, but was raised Protestant. Welby also said that Markle’s divorce from former husband Trevor Engelson has been addressed and is “not a problem,” according to TownandCountryMag.com.

"We went through that as anyone would who will officiate at a wedding where someone has been separated and a partner is still living,” Welby continued.

He added that he’s “looking forward” to the couple’s wedding which will take place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. “The wedding is going to be wonderful,” he said.

Kensington Palace announced last week that 2,000 members of the public will be invited to the wedding. “The couple has asked that the people chosen are from a broad range of backgrounds and ages, including young people who have shown strong leadership, and those who have served their communities,” read the announcement.
