Miami Woman Gives Birth during Irma while Doctor Coaches Her via Phone

A Miami woman gave birth to a baby girl in the midst of Hurricane Irma, while doctors coached her through the birthing process.
The woman reportedly went into labor Sunday morning, right around the time when Hurricane Irma made it impossible for emergency personnel to be out on the streets in Miami and other places in southern Florida.
When the City of Miami’s Fire Department received the call and couldn’t respond, they instead referred the woman to Jackson Health where doctors coached her through the birth.

ABC News reports that, following the successful home birth and the passing of the storm, the mother and her baby girl were taken to Jackson Hospital.
The Miami Herald spoke with Miami Assistant Fire Chief Eloy Garcia who added that the doctors at Jackson Hospital instructed the woman in how to tie off the placenta after giving birth.
“We weren't able to respond. So she delivered the placenta, also. Dispatch told her how to tie it off. She's stable at home,” Garcia told the Herald. "We made contact with the assistant medical director here. Talked things through."
Miami saw massive flooding and significant destruction from Irma, including upwards of 100 mph winds.
