Mom Who Refused Chemo to Save Baby Gives Birth to Healthy Boy

A pregnant New York woman who was diagnosed with brain cancer and refused treatment to save her unborn baby has given birth to a healthy baby boy.

According to LifeNews.com, Kim Vaillancourt woke up on Christmas Day 2015 with a severe headache and nausea. She thought she had the flu and wouldn’t have gone to the doctor, except she was pregnant and wanted to make sure her baby would be okay.

When Vaillancourt was examined at the hospital, doctors found she had two tumors on her brain, which they said could have killed her.

She was rushed into surgery to remove the tumors and was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Although advised to begin chemotherapy to remove the cancer, Vaillancourt chose not to begin treatment since she didn’t want to risk harming her unborn baby.

“The baby saved me. Now it’s my turn to save him,” she said.

Vaillancourt gave birth to a healthy baby boy on April 8. Kim and her husband, Phil, named the baby Wyatt Eli which means "little warrior sent by God."

The Vaillancourts have two other biological children and three foster children whom they adopted just five days before Kim’s diagnosis.

Although doctors predict Kim has only a little over a year to live, the family remains hopeful.

“We definitely believe in miracles,” Phil said.
