A new Canadian law allows the government to take away children if their families do not accept their chosen gender identity.

Heatstreet reports that the Supporting Children, Youth and Families Act of 2017, otherwise known as Bill 89, passed in the province of Ontario in a 63-23 vote.

Regarding the new law, Minister of Child and Family Services Michael Coteau, stated, “I would consider that a form of abuse, when a child identifies one way and a caregiver is saying no, you need to do this differently. “If it’s abuse, and if it’s within the definition, a child can be removed from that environment and placed into protection where the abuse stops.”

Writing for Stream.org, Michael Brown warns of the consequences of such a bill. He notes that this recent law follows a startling trend in Canada of reduced parental and religious freedom.

In 2012, Canada passed a law that barred homeschooling families from teaching their children that homosexuality is a sin.

Now, Brown warns, with Bill 89, the rights of the family have been undermined to an even greater extent.

Brown quotes Jack Fonseca, a political strategist for Campaign for Life Coalition: “With the passage of Bill 89, we’ve entered an era of totalitarian power by the state, such as never witnessed before in Canada’s history. Make no mistake, Bill 89 is a grave threat to Christians and all people of faith who have children, or who hope to grow their family through adoption.”

Brown encourages Americans to stand up for their convictions and for biblical principles and not to simply dismiss this bill because it doesn’t affect those in the U.S.
