A suicide bomber reportedly blew himself up outside a church in Gombe, Nigeria Thursday (Jan. 1). The suicide bombing did not claim any lives but some people close to the attack sustained injuries.

The Christian Post reports that the suicide bomber was arguing with church volunteers about a barricade that was set up at the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA); the man wanted to ride his motorcycle through the barricade but church volunteers refused. The bombs strapped to the man’s body detonated during the argument.

Abubakar Yakubu, the head of the Nigeria Red Cross said in a statement, "There was an explosion outside the ECWA church this morning. A suicide bomber who was restrained from getting into the church blew himself up. Luckily no one was killed but some people were mildly injured."

In a separate attack Thursday, a female suicide bomber blew herself up at the Bolari military barracks in Gombe.
