Northern Ireland’s Attorney General, John Larkin, is appealing a pro-abortion ruling from Justice Horner.

Justice Horner’s ruling stated that abortion should be allowed in the case that the unborn baby has a life-limiting condition. The ruling claimed that not allowing abortion in such a case was a “gross interference” with a woman’s “personal autonomy.”

However, according to The Christian Institute, the ruling did not take into consideration the possibility of misdiagnosis of a life-limiting condition.

The ruling also stated that not allowing abortion in the case of a sexual crime places a “disproportionate burden” on the would-be mother.

Larkin, however, contends that Horner’s ruling is “incompatible” with human rights legislation.

Justice Minister David Ford and the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission have also announced that they will challenge parts of the ruling.

Abortion is currently allowed in Northern Ireland only if the mother’s life is at risk.
