A pastor and seminary professor has taken his life after his name appeared on the list of millions of Ashley Madison users.

Last month the adultery website Ashley Madison suffered a massive hack which released names of millions of the website’s users to the public.

Dr. John Gibson, 56,  was one of them.

The Blaze reports that Gibson was pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Pearlington, Mississippi and seminary professor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Gibson’s wife, Christi, said of her late husband, “What we know about him is that he poured his life into other people, and he offered grace and mercy and forgiveness to everyone else. But somehow he couldn’t extend that to himself.”

Gibson reportedly struggled with addiction and depression throughout his life.

Christi Gibson commented on her husband’s suicide, stating that “It was a moment that life doesn’t prepare you for. I had to call my kids. How do you tell your kids that their dad is gone and that he took his own life?”

Christi Gibson said she would have forgiven her husband, but he was too ashamed that his name appeared on the list of Ashley Madison users.

After his death, an article released by New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary described Gibson as a "beloved professor."
