Pastor's Wife Fined for Praying Too Loudly in the Street

A pastor’s wife who immigrated to North Dakota has been fined $150 for praying too loudly in the street. 

Christian Today reports Martha Nagbe was cited by police for “disturbing the peace.” Nagbe had allegedly shouted praises to the Lord outside of peoples’ homes waking citizens from sleep, though some protested that Nagbe’s prayers only occurred during the daytime.

Nagbe, who travelled to the United States in pursuit of religious freedom, believes that her rights are being violated. 

In an interview with Valley News Live she said, "I can't stop. I'm trusting God.” 

Nagbe’s husband, Pastor Juwle Nagbe said, "For them to antagonise her, to make her look like a bad person, sometimes makes me angry. Somebody should give her the respect that she deserves.” 

Police maintain that Nagbe is not being targeted for her faith, but the volume of her voice has brought about too many complaints.

"I mean, we all need prayers and great she's out there praying for all of us, but it's just the volume of her voice," Lisbon Police Chief Jeanette Persons said.
