Police Say Home of San Bernardino Shooting Suspects May be Rigged with Explosives

Police continued to investigate a home in Redlands connected with a suspect in the San Bernardino shootings on Wednesday.
Syed Farook is one of the people suspected of killing at least 14 people and injuring another 17 at a social services center in San Bernardino.
According to CBS Los Angeles, police received a tip to the home in Redlands. When officers approached the home, a man and a woman fled and a gun battle broke out. Both the man and women were killed.
Thursday and Friday, police continued to search the Redlands home carefully. It’s suspected that the home may be rigged with explosives. It’s also suspected that the home belongs to Farook’s sister and mother.
“We don’t know the contents of what’s in that house, but previous active-shooter incidents have shown us there are times when devices are left behind,” said David Bowdich, assistant director of the Los Angeles Field Office of the FBI. “We certainly are going to proceed very cautiously into that house, to preserve life and limb of our employees.”
The woman killed in the police shootout was Farook’s wife, Tashfeen Malik. She is also suspected in the shooting.
The couple had a 6-month-old daughter, who they reportedly left with her grandmother on the day of the shooting. Police believe the couple may have lived at the house.
“I was in awe that it was happening four houses down from my property,” one neighbor said.
