Poll: 7 out of 10 Americans Support Pro-Life ‘Heartbeat’ Bill

A new poll has revealed that nearly seven out of 10 Americans support making a “heartbeat bill” a federal law.
Charisma News reports on a recently-released poll from the Barna Group which showed strong support for the pro-life bill that would prohibit abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks.
Such a bill has been introduced in a number of states this year, including, most notably, Ohio, where Gov. Kasich vetoed it in favor of a 20-week abortion ban.
Now, Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King has introduced HR 490, a federal heartbeat bill, which, according to the poll, has support from the majority of Americans.
The poll specifically found that 69 percent of Americans agreed with this statement: "If a doctor is able to detect the heartbeat of an unborn baby, that unborn baby should be legally protected."
Breaking the results down even further, a very significant percentage of Republicans (86 percent) and Independents (61 percent) agreed with the statement, while even a majority of Democrats polled also said they agreed with it (55 percent).
The federal heartbeat bill will be discussed in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday.
"The heartbeat is the medical measurement of life," stated Faith2Action president Janet Porter. "It's the reason you've never been to the funeral of someone with a heartbeat.
