The U.S. launched missile strikes against a Syrian airbase Thursday night. President Donald Trump’s speech about the decision to take this action against Syria was filled with references to God and a higher power.

Trump seemed to base his reasoning for the justification of the U.S. missile launch on a sense of overriding justice.

"Numerous previous attempts at changing Assad’s behavior have all...failed very dramatically," the President said. "Tonight I call on all civilized nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria."

On Tuesday, forces of Syrian President Assad dropped chemical weapons on civilians in the town of Khan Sheikhoun. At least 80 people died, including at least 10 children.

"No child of God should ever suffer such horror," Trump said in reference to the poison gas attack.

According to CBN News, the President went on to say that all men and women are created by God and deserve protection and safety from evil. He asked for God’s wisdom in the decisions that lie ahead for the U.S.

In his closing remarks, Trump asked God not only to bless America, but the entire world, revealing a magnanimity that he has not always showcased.
