Two pro-life students who were peacefully handing out pro-life materials outside a high school were arrested and taken to jail.

This incident occurred in 2012. LifeNews.com reports that last week, Life Legal Defense Foundation Senior Staff Attorney Allison K. Aranda appeared in federal court to argue the case for the two young women.

Kristina Garza and Brianna Baxter had reportedly stood on the sidewalk outside Murrah High School and handed out pro-life materials. The two young women were part of Survivors, an organization dedicated to educating young people about the truth of abortion.

Despite video recordings and photographs that prove the young women were not a public disruption and were peacefully handing out the materials, the Jackson Public School District (JPSD) claimed they were hanging from school buses and engaging in other types of disorderly conduct.

The two young women were also reportedly treated unfairly after they were arrested. They were denied their requests for food and drink as well as their request to speak to their attorney.

“As a matter of constitutional law, citizens have a right to engage in free speech on a public sidewalk,” stated Ms. Aranda in her defense of Garza and Baxter. “The law is clear. Students and the public have the right to engage in peaceful, non-disruptive free speech on the public sidewalk adjacent to schools.”
