Religious Researcher Claims Rapture Begins on Saturday

Several videos claiming the rapture will begin on Saturday, September 23^rd, have recently gone viral. According to The Huffington Post, the man behind these declarations is a Christian researcher named David Meade, who surmised the rapture would occur 33 days after last month’s solar eclipse. Meade explained his reasoning during an interview,

“‘Jesus lived for 33 years. The name Elohim, which is the name of God to the Jews, was mentioned 33 times [in the Bible]. It’s a very biblically significant, numerologically significant number. I’m talking astronomy. I’m talking the Bible … and merging the two.’”

According to Meade, a secret planet called Nibiru will incite global catastrophes by passing the Earth on Sunday. Meade’s claims have been widely rebuffed by scientists and theologians alike. NASA has flatly stated that Nibiru doesn’t exist, while Ed Stetzer of Christianity Today responded by calling Meade,

“A made-up leader in a made-up field, and should not be on the front page of anything, let alone Fox News.”

With scripture frequently stating that no man knows the hour of Christ’s return (Matthew 24:36), it’s highly unlikely Meade’s predictions will be proven true.
