Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), the politician who was severely injured in a shooting at a Congressional Baseball Game practice last month, has finally been released from the hospital.

After a couple setbacks and fear of infection, doctors okayed Scalise to be discharged on Tuesday, reports FoxNews.com.

Scalise was the most severely wounded of four who were injured in the attack on Republican lawmakers who had been practicing in Alexandria, VA on June 14 for the upcoming game. He suffered a gunshot wound to the hip and underwent several surgeries.

MedStar Washington Hospital Center where Scalise was being treated said he is “in good spirits” and is “looking forward to his return to work.”

“He and his family are grateful for the care he received from the trauma team as well as the other doctors, nurses, and staff of MedStar Washington Hospital Center,” read a statement from the hospital on Wednesday. “The family also appreciates the outpouring of support during this time.”

Before he can return to work, however, Scalise will have to undergo a period of intensive rehabilitation. This will reportedly take several weeks.
